PAUL SANDERSON BRIGGS

Phaethon World-Stage Co. Pictures was formed in New York with the production of the lauded Off-Broadway play "Armband for Liberty".   "An electric sliver of history" (the New York Post), written in "that chatty, exaggerated, early-American style" (the Village Voice), the New York Law Journal called the play "an innovative peek into the lives, and deaths, of talented people with a social conscience in Greenwich Village."   Co-founder of Phaethon, writer-producer-designer Barbara Briggs (known as "Briggs"), produced the limited engagement, which was extended twice, while the company's other founder Paul Sanderson, who is originally from Australia, co-wrote, directed and played the lead.  Dr. Joy Browne of WOR Radio Network commented, "Seamlessly directed by the versatile Mr. Sanderson, the acting is uniformly excellent--especially the two leads." After reviews of the play were cited in the Hollywood Reporter, Sanderson and Briggs were hired to write a fact-based screenplay in Los Angeles.   They subsequently worked on a number of screenplays at differing stages with various directors and producers, with a $20-million offer being made to a high-profile male star on an original screenplay of their own to which a studio-based director was attached.   At the same time, Briggs produced a promotional short for a journalistic thriller set in San Francisco, which Sanderson played the lead in and directed.   That in turn led to their first feature film, LIVES NO LONGER OURS, with Briggs producing and Sanderson directing and playing Capt. Jameson Macaulay.   The trailer for the film has now been featured by Sony Corp. at the Sundance and Cinequest film festivals.   Once in post-production on LIVES, Sanderson and Briggs shifted Phaethon's base back to New York, where they are in pre-production on a high comedy for London's West End and Broadway featuring two British stars. [On hold due to Briggs's battle with cancer--www.phaethonworld.com/PetitionForBriggs]   Sanderson will also direct and play one of the lead roles in a new 22-character sociophilosophic dramatic play with music, written with and to be co-produced by Briggs.   Three feature films in development include a romantic drama set in Tokyo, where Sanderson lived for a year while acting in national commercials for companies such as Sony and in various drama series.
